2 years.
2 years of working a graveyard shift 9:30pm to 7:30am has finally come to the end. I had to take the bull by the horns my own self and quit the job. I start my new job Tuesday and it's a normal 8-5 Monday-Friday.

At the start of this year I told myself that I would take care of myself. The major component to that promise was getting off of graveyard, 8 years of dedication and hard work be damned. They couldn't put me back on a day shift so I had to do the deed. Friday morning I turned in my key and drove away from the hospital for the last time. *big sigh*

Yea, I'm sad. I'll miss my friends, but I've been missing them for two years since I actually worked by myself for the bulk of the 10 hour shift. I'm super excited about the new hospital and enjoying my first Saturday, that I didn't have spend sleeping, in 2 years with my husband.

Other things roll with this change. One is that we're working full steam ahead on getting the floor down and the walls painted. It's been nearly 18 months since we started this ill-fated project! Afterwards I get to redecorate, which entails ripping down these horrible mini-blinds that came with the house and putting up some eye popping drapes. We'll also be able to consider replacing the sliding glass door with some french doors. Sweet!

I bought my Kiwi 2 spinning wheel finally and at least have it oiled. I'm going to apply some Wood Beams to it and then start putting it together. I say start because I'm going to paint the actual wheel. I haven't decided on a design yet, but I have a few ideas.

Before oil.
After applying danish oil.

So now I'll have time to post and time to spin and time to do all the things I've been putting off for 2 years. YAY!

Fiber Dragon

I've been the Fiber Diva for so long that it seems odd to change it, but really. I'm more like a dragon. Like Smaug I'm hoarding my fiber, protecting it, caring for it, going out and collecting more. I love the sound of the "Fiber Dragon". I picture a fiber hoarding dragon as a metallic green with scales swirling with color. Instead of eating sheep, alpaca, etc., the fiber dragon protects them from marauding predators.

Yea, The Fiber Dragon. :-)

I finally finished the Honey Cowl and it was a very fun knit! It did show me just how slow of a knitter I am, but I think I've made peace with that, finally. I'll post pics of the cowl eventually. I knitted it with Madelinetosh's Vintage, worsted weight, in the Terrarium color way.  When a company says they do not have dye lots, take note! If I had realized that I wanted to make the cowl as wide as I had, I would have bought two skeins at the same time so that they were closer in color. But no, it was an afterthought. I was halfway through the first skein when I decided I wanted to make it wider. I resigned myself to the fact that the two skeins would be different, but wasn't prepared for just how different. I should have frogged the first skein and alternated the two. When the cowl is on, it really makes no difference, but *I* know. LOL

So now I'm stuck. I don't know what to knit next! I have a friend whose little girl is due in April and is having a shower in February. I really would like to knit up some Merry Jane booties, the Baby Sophisticate jacket and the adorable Cora Cloche. I think they'd look so cute together!

On the other hand I'd really like to knit up the kerchief The Age of Brass & Steam. I'll figure it out. No matter what I choose, if it's not made of sock weight, I have to go to the LYS. Oh yea, that's painful.  Not.
